Tournament Format
NOTE: The tournament format is still to be confirmed dependent upon final team numbers. The likely competition format is described below.
The competition will comprise two groups of teams playing in a series of round robin matches. Within a group each team will play the other teams once. At the completion of the round robin series all teams will be placed from first to last place in their group according to points obtained.
Points allocation:
- Teams score two points for each win and no points for a loss
- In the event that teams within a group end the round robin phase on equal points, the team with the highest run differential (runs for, minus runs against from all matches) shall be ranked higher
Finals:
- At the completion of the round robin phase the two highest ranked teams shall play in the tournament final
- The two second ranked teams shall play off for third and fourth place.
Game Format - TWENTY20 GAMES
INNINGS
- Each team will have a maximum of twenty overs per innings
- The bowling team must aim to complete their 20 overs in 80 minutes to ensure sufficient time between matches.
- There will be a 20 minute break between innings
BOWLING
- Teams may use as many bowlers as they choose but bowlers are only permitted to bowl a maximum of 3 overs each
- Overs will be 6 ball overs. A maximum of 8 balls may be bowled per over if Wides or No Balls persist.
- The bowler can take no more than 6 steps into the crease
- A No Ball is called for balls above waist on the full, or over the shoulder on the bounce
- A Wide is called for any offside or legside delivery, which in the opinion of the umpire does not give the batsman a reasonable opportunity to score. As a guide, a ball shall be called wide if it lands wider thanĀ three-quarters of the distance between the stumps and the return crease on the off side or greater than half that distance on the on-side
- A Wide and No Ball will score 2 runs each
BATTING
- A batter must retire at 50. However, a retired batter may return to the crease if his team is bowled out within 20 overs to continue his innings
- There will be no LBW dismissals during round robin matches due to lack of independent umpires. LBW dismissals will be allowed in the tournament final where independent umpires will stand.
- Batsmen must be at the crease within 2 minutes of the fall of a wicket
- The batting innings cannot end on a No Ball or Wide. A good ball must be bowled
FIELDING
- Teams must have 2 fielders in stationery catching positions at all times
- Teams must have no more than five fieldsmen on the leg side and no more than two fielders behind square leg
- Captains and umpires must ensure fielding restrictions are adhered to
UMPIRES
- Teams shall umpire their own matches with the exception of the tournament final
- Umpires must ensure that innings time limits and break times are adhered to
- Umpires must ensure that fielding restrictions are adhered to
SCORING
- Teams shall score their own matches with the exception of the tournament final
- Individual batting and bowling scores will be required for allocation of prizes at the end of the tournament (e.g. highest run scorer, best bowling, most wickets)
RESULT
- The team with the highest run total after 20 overs wins
- In the event of a tie, a bowl off will occur. Bowl off: 5 bowlers are selected from each side to bowl at the stumps. Each bowler bowls two balls at stumps and the total number of times that the stumps are hit is recorded. The team with the highest total wins. If still a tie, another 5 different bowlers are selected from each team and the bowl off is repeated
